The New York Knicks have declared that All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns will not be playing in Wednesday night's game against the Philadelphia 76ers due to a sprained right thumb.

Initially listed as questionable, Towns' status was later changed to doubtful and he was ultimately ruled out of the game.

In the Knicks' previous game on Monday, a 124-119 loss to the Detroit Pistons, Towns played for 43 minutes despite appearing to injure his hand in the first half. He finished the game with 26 points and 12 rebounds.

This is Towns' first season with the Knicks after being traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves in July. He has been averaging 25.4 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in the 38 games he has played.

Center Jericho Sims, who has started in the three games that Towns has missed this season due to knee soreness, is listed as probable for the game against the 76ers due to lower back spasms.

Knicks All-Star guard Jalen Brunson is also probable for the game as he deals with right shoulder soreness.

On the other hand, the 76ers will be without All-Star Joel Embiid, who has been dealing with a sprained left foot and has not played since January 4th. Fellow center Andre Drummond will also be out due to a sprained toe. In their absence, forward Paul George and point guard Tyrese Maxey will be available for the game. However, point guard Kyle Lowrey and forward Caleb Martin have been ruled out due to a hip injury and a groin injury, respectively.
