Nets' C Nic Claxton Fined $25K by NBA for Tossing Ball into Stands
The NBA fined Brooklyn's Nic Claxton $25,000 on Saturday for tossing a basketball into the stands during the Nets' 101-94 win against the Toronto Raptors on Thursday.
Claxton was given a technical foul and ejected from the game with 8:46 remaining in the second quarter. The incident occurred after he grabbed a defensive rebound and was fouled by Raptors center Kelly Olynyk while dribbling on a fast break.
In response, Claxton threw the ball underhanded into a section of spectators.
After the game, Claxton told the New York Post, "I just had a momentary lapse and threw the ball into the crowd. I can't let my emotions get the best of me. I need to be there for my team."
He had seven points, five rebounds, and one block in just 11 minutes before being ejected for the third time this season.
This season, Claxton, 25, is averaging 9.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.2 blocks in 21 games (13 starts).
Brooklyn drafted Claxton in the second round (31st overall) of the 2019 NBA Draft from Georgia. In his 262 career games (180 starts), he is averaging 10.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.8 blocks.
