NBA Recap: Amen Thompson Leads Rockets to Victory over Late-Sinking Celtics

Amen Thompson hit a game-winning floater with 1.3 seconds left to secure a victory for the Houston Rockets over the short-handed Boston Celtics on Monday night. The visiting Rockets were able to polish off a career night for Thompson, who lifted his team to a 114-112 win.

Thompson scored a career-high 33 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out four assists to help Houston secure a victory in coach Ime Udoka's return to Boston, where he coached during the 2021-22 season.

The Celtics had one last chance to win the game, but Payton Pritchard's full-court heave at the buzzer only hit the top of the backboard.

In another game, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Charlotte Hornets 112-107. Anthony Davis recorded season highs with 42 points and 23 rebounds to help the Lakers secure the victory. LeBron James contributed 22 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists for the Lakers, who have won four straight games and six of their past seven.

The Miami Heat defeated the Orlando Magic 125-119 in double overtime. Tyler Herro scored 30 points and had a season-high 12 assists to lead the Heat to victory. Bam Adebayo added 26 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists for Miami, who suspended Jimmy Butler for the third time this season. Franz Wagner led the Magic with 29 points.

The Cleveland Cavaliers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 110-91 win over the Detroit Pistons. Darius Garland scored 22 points and Donovan Mitchell added 21 points for the Eastern Conference-leading Cavaliers, who never trailed in the game. Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 22 points.

The Sacramento Kings defeated the Brooklyn Nets 110-96. De'Aaron Fox scored 30 points, including 16 in the third quarter, to lead the Kings to victory. Domantas Sabonis logged 21 points, 22 rebounds, and 10 assists for the Nets, but it wasn't enough to prevent their seventh consecutive defeat.
