New Chicago Bulls newcomer Josh Giddey revealed that he suffered a rupture in his ankle ligament while representing Australia at the Paris Olympics, but he anticipates being ready for the start of the season.

During the Bulls' media day on Monday, Giddey shared that the injury to his anterior talofibular ligament occurred during Australia's final game at the Olympics, and it turned out to be more severe than initially thought.

When asked about his availability for the Bulls' season opener against the New Orleans Pelicans on October 23, Giddey confidently stated, "I'll be fine." However, he acknowledged that he will have a gradual return to full training during training camp.

Having a strong start to the season is crucial for the Bulls, who plan on playing at a fast pace this year.

Giddey revealed that the team has been practicing with 14-second shot clocks to emphasize their desired tempo. He believes that once the team gets into the habit, they will be a formidable force in the open court.

The 21-year-old Giddey was acquired by the Bulls on June 21 from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for guard Alex Caruso. Chicago also received a trade exception in the deal.

In his three NBA seasons, the 6-foot-8 Giddey has averaged 13.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in 210 games, all of which he started. He was selected as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Thunder.
