"Jared McCain, a rookie for the 76ers, admitted to hospital for overnight stay"

"76ers' Newcomer Jared McCain Admitted to Hospital for Overnight Stay"

Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard Jared McCain was admitted to the hospital overnight following a hard fall during Wednesday night's preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets.

The team issued a statement on Thursday stating that McCain had been released earlier that morning and was currently resting at home.

"He will undergo further evaluation later today and we will provide an update as necessary," the team said.

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, McCain suffered pulmonary contusions and is being tested for a possible concussion.

During the Sixers' 117-95 win, McCain was knocked to the ground by two Nets players while attempting to rebound his own missed shot. He appeared to hit his head on the court and showed signs of physical distress before being escorted to the locker room.

"It was a tough fall," said Sixers coach Nick Nurse after the game. "He was taken to the hospital for evaluation. He was having difficulty breathing. I thought maybe he had the wind knocked out of him, but I'm not sure. I've never seen anything like that before, so hopefully he's okay. We'll wait for the hospital's report."

McCain, who is 20 years old, had nine points, seven rebounds, and two assists in 23 minutes off the bench before exiting the game.

Philadelphia drafted McCain with the 16th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft from Duke, where he averaged 14.3 points and 5.0 rebounds last season.

The 76ers will conclude their preseason schedule on Friday night against Orlando and will begin the regular season at home against Milwaukee next Wednesday night.
