Jalen Brunson, Knicks' standout guard, given green light to resume practice after ankle injury

Star New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson is set to make his return to practice and may even play in a game this weekend.

The 28-year-old Brunson was initially expected to be out for at least two weeks after spraining his right ankle in a March 6 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. However, his recovery time has been extended as the Knicks (48-28) have managed to go 8-6 without him and currently hold the third spot in the Eastern Conference.

\"He has been cleared to participate in basketball activities,\" stated coach Tom Thibodeau on Wednesday before the Knicks' 124-105 defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

With only six regular-season games left, the Knicks will face the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday and the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. Brunson has played in 61 games, just four shy of the 65-game requirement to be eligible for postseason awards.

Brunson, who is a strong contender for All-NBA recognition and the Clutch Player of the Year award, has been averaging 26.3 points, 7.4 assists, and 3.0 rebounds in 61 starts.

The Villanova alum was selected by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2018 NBA Draft.

Brunson has been voted as an All-Star for the past two seasons and was named to the All-NBA second team in 2023-24. Throughout his career, he has averaged 18.1 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.2 rebounds in 483 regular-season games (333 starts) for the Mavericks (2018-22) and Knicks.
