Center Wendell Carter Jr. has made a commitment to the Orlando Magic for the future by signing a contract extension on Monday.

The team announced the signing on social media, but did not disclose the details. According to ESPN, Carter received a three-year, $59 million extension, with the final year being a team option.

The new agreement will take effect after the remaining two years (worth a total of $28 million) on Carter's current contract.

Carter, 25, has played for both the Bulls (2018-19 to 2020-21) and the Magic (2020-21 to 2023-24) during his NBA career. He was drafted by Chicago as the No. 7 overall pick in 2018 after playing for Duke, but was traded to Orlando in March 2021 along with Otto Porter and two first-round picks in exchange for Nikola Vucevic and Al-Farouq Aminu.

In the previous season, Carter averaged 11 points and 6.9 rebounds in 55 games (48 starts). Throughout his 315 NBA games (294 starts), he has averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds. His best season was in 2021-22, when he averaged 15 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.

Orlando tied for fifth place in the Eastern Conference last season with a record of 47-35, but lost in a first-round playoff series to the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games.
