Cynthia Marshall, the CEO of the Dallas Mavericks, has announced her retirement at the end of this year.

Marshall, who is 64 years old, has been a part of the franchise since March 2018, when she was hired by former majority owner Mark Cuban. This made her the first Black female CEO in the NBA.

In a letter to her colleagues obtained by ESPN's Andscape, Marshall said, "My initial three-year commitment has now more than doubled in time. I am grateful for every day of our journey together. Together, we have made the Mavs, our communities, and our industry better. You have all made me a better person. My hope is that I am leaving the organization in a better state than when I first joined."

She added, "I have so much love for you all, our team, and our fans. Becoming the CEO of the Dallas Mavericks was beyond my wildest dreams. Thank you for giving me and my family the experience of a lifetime. We will always be Mavs Family and Fans."

According to ESPN, Marshall had been considering retirement for a few weeks, but it was only recently that she reached an agreement with Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont.

In a statement, Dumont said, "Cynt Marshall is a force to be reckoned with. Her superpower is bringing people together, but she has many other superpowers. Cynt has always gone above and beyond in everything she does, and her leadership of the Dallas Mavericks is no exception. She has made an indelible mark on this franchise, and we are forever grateful. Her positive impact will be felt for years to come."

Marshall will continue to work with the Mavericks as a consultant until December 2025.

Last season, the Mavericks had a record of 50-32 and made it to the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Boston Celtics in five games. They will begin the 2024-25 season against the San Antonio Spurs on October 24th.
