"Announcement: Spurs' Coach Gregg Popovich Takes Time Off Following Health Emergency"

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich passed out at a steakhouse in San Antonio earlier this week and was removed from the restaurant on a stretcher and transported by ambulance, according to multiple sources.

According to TMZ, the incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. CT on Tuesday night. Popovich was reportedly conscious and speaking as he was taken to the ambulance.

Reports indicate that Popovich's injuries were not life-threatening and he is currently recovering at home.

The 76-year-old coach missed most of the 2024-25 NBA season after suffering a stroke before a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on November 2. He was officially ruled out for the rest of the season on February 27 and informed his players that he plans to return next season.

TMZ also reported that Popovich appeared to be experiencing symptoms related to his stroke during the two hours he spent at the steakhouse before paramedics were called.

Popovich has an impressive coaching career, winning five NBA titles since he began coaching the Spurs in 1996-97. He has a total of 1,412 regular-season wins and led San Antonio to a record-breaking 18 consecutive 50-win seasons. The streak ended with a 47-35 record in the 2017-18 season.

In the current season, Mitch Johnson served as interim coach for the Spurs, who finished with a record of 34-48.
