Up-and-coming athletes to grace 2025 edition of 'MLB The Show'

Elly De La Cruz, Gunnar Henderson and Paul Skenes have been chosen by Sony Interactive Entertainment to grace the cover of "MLB The Show 25," announced on Tuesday.

This special edition, celebrating the 20th anniversary, marks the first time that multiple athletes have been featured on the cover.

De La Cruz is the inaugural Cincinnati Reds player to be featured on a video game cover. Henderson is the first Baltimore Orioles player to receive this honor since Cal Ripken Jr. on "MLB 99," and Skenes is the first Pittsburgh Pirates cover star since Andrew McCutchen on "MLB 13: The Show."

At the age of 23, De La Cruz made his first All-Star team in 2024. The shortstop led the league with 67 stolen bases and recorded 25 home runs, 10 triples, 36 doubles, 76 RBIs, and 105 runs in 160 games.

Henderson, also 23, followed up his 2023 Rookie of the Year win with his first All-Star selection in 2024. The shortstop had a batting average of .281 with 37 home runs, 92 RBIs, and 118 runs in 159 games.

Skenes, who is 22 years old, went from being the No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft to winning the 2024 Rookie of the Year award and earning an All-Star selection. The right-hander finished the season with an 11-3 record, a 1.96 ERA, and 170 strikeouts in 133 innings.
