"Swift Healing Tale: Red Sox Shortstop Trevor Story's Comeback after Shoulder Operation"

"Swift recuperation tale: Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story makes comeback after shoulder operation"

The Boston Red Sox activated shortstop Trevor Story from the 60-day disabled list before Saturday's matchup against the Chicago White Sox.

Story's comeback is a surprise, as he suffered a dislocated and fractured left shoulder on April 5 while diving for a ground ball against the Los Angeles Angels. The team announced that he would be out for the rest of the season and underwent surgery seven days later.

However, Story has returned with 21 games remaining in the season, just over five months after his injury. He will be playing shortstop and batting seventh in Saturday's game.

Aside from his speedy recovery, another reason for Story's return is the fact that the Red Sox are still in the running for a postseason spot. They are currently five games behind the Minnesota Twins for the American League's third wild-card spot.

\"A lot of it has to do with where we're at,\" Story told reporters on Saturday. \"It's time to go, you know, we don't have much time left.\"

Prior to his injury, Story, 31, had a .226 batting average with four RBIs in eight games.

Ceddanne Rafaela, who had been filling in at shortstop for Story, has been moved to center field for Saturday's game.

In March 2022, the Red Sox signed Story to a six-year, $140 million contract, but he has only played in 145 games over the past three seasons due to injuries.

In 2022, he was limited to 94 games due to a fractured wrist, and last season he underwent right elbow surgery and played in just 43 games.

Overall, Story has a .227 batting average with 19 home runs and 84 RBIs for Boston.

He spent his first six seasons, including two All-Star appearances, with the Colorado Rockies. In 745 games with the Rockies, he had a .272 batting average with 158 home runs, 450 RBIs, and 100 stolen bases.

Boston also sent catcher Mickey Gasper to Triple-A Worcester and recalled right-hander Isaiah Campbell (elbow) from Worcester, placing him on the 60-day injured list to make room for Story on the 40-man roster.
