"Shoulder Injury Forces Angels to Put Ben Joyce on Injured List"

"Ben Joyce (shoulder) activated from injured list by Angels"

The Los Angeles Angels received unfavorable news, a situation no team desires to hear, especially at this early stage of the season.

On Friday, the Angels suffered a significant setback as they placed hard-throwing right-hander Ben Joyce on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his throwing shoulder.

The placement is retroactive to Wednesday, when Joyce's fastball showed decreased velocity during his appearance against the Tampa Bay Rays.

"We have no idea how long this will last, but we will definitely give him time to rest and we will have a better understanding as we monitor his progress," stated Angels manager Ron Washington.

Washington expressed the team's disappointment in losing Joyce, who currently holds a record of 1-0 with a 6.23 ERA in five appearances this season.

To fill Joyce's spot on the roster, the Angels called up right-handed pitcher Michael Darrell-Hicks from Triple-A Salt Lake.
