'Shohei Ohtani undergoes arthroscopic procedure on non-dominant shoulder'
The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure on Tuesday to repair a labrum tear in his non-throwing shoulder.
The Dodgers are confident that Ohtani, who is a strong contender for the National League MVP award, will be fully recovered and ready for spring training.
During Game 2 of the World Series, Ohtani partially dislocated his shoulder while attempting to steal a base. He was assisted off the field by a member of the Dodgers' medical team and was seen holding his arm.
Although Ohtani was cleared to play in Game 3, the dislocation ultimately resulted in a labrum tear.
Despite the injury, the Dodgers went on to defeat the New York Yankees in five games, marking the end of Ohtani's first season with the team.
Ohtani made history by becoming the first player in MLB history to achieve 50 home runs and 50 steals in a single season, finishing with 54 and 59, respectively.
Due to a Tommy John surgery in September 2023, Ohtani did not pitch in the 2024 season. However, he is expected to return as a pitcher in 2025.
