Red Sox trade LHP Cam Booser to White Sox
Southpaw reliever Cam Booser, who had a successful debut season as a 32-year-old this year, was acquired by the Chicago White Sox in a trade with the Boston Red Sox on Saturday.
Boston received young right-hander Yhoiker Fajardo in the exchange.
Booser posted a record of 2-3 with one save and an ERA of 3.38 in 43 relief appearances for the Red Sox in 2024. He recorded 43 strikeouts and 16 walks in 42 2/3 innings.
Booser made his major league debut 13 years after starting his career in the minor leagues. He spent 2018-20 out of the minors and worked as a carpenter during that time.
Fajardo, 18, had a record of 1-4 with an ERA of 3.91 in 13 starts in rookie-level ball this year. He struck out 64 batters and walked eight in 50 2/3 innings.
The White Sox designated outfielder Corey Julks for assignment to make room for Booser on the 40-man roster.
Julks, 28, batted .214 with an on-base percentage of .275, a slugging percentage of .306, three home runs, and 14 RBIs in 66 games for Chicago this year. In two seasons in the major leagues, including 2023 with the Houston Astros, Julks has a career batting line of .234/.289/.335 with nine home runs and 47 RBIs in 159 games.
