The Boston Red Sox included newly acquired right-hander Lucas Sims in their roster as part of a series of transactions on Wednesday.

Sims was acquired by the Red Sox from the Cincinnati Reds before the trade deadline on Tuesday, along with right-hander Luis Garcia. Garcia is expected to join the roster on either Thursday or Friday.

To make room for Sims, the Red Sox designated veteran right-hander Yohan Ramirez for assignment. Ramirez had only appeared in one game for Boston since being selected off waivers on Sunday.

Additionally, the Red Sox called up infielder Nick Sogard from Worcester and sent infielder Jamie Westbrook down to the Triple-A club.

Sims, who is 30 years old, had a record of 1-4 with a 3.57 ERA and one save in 43 appearances for the Cincinnati bullpen this season.

Sogard will make his major league debut with his first appearance. The 26-year-old has a batting line of .279/.382/.439 at Worcester this season, with 12 home runs, 17 doubles, and 54 RBIs. He will not be in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners.

Westbrook, who is 29 years old, had a batting average of .150 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 21 games during his rookie season.

Ramirez, who is also 29 years old, pitched 1 1/3 innings on Tuesday and gave up three runs (two earned). He has already played for four different teams in 2024 and has pitched for a total of eight teams in his major league career, with a record of 6-9 and a 4.58 ERA.
