"Red Sox Acquire INF Mickey Gasper from Twins in Exchange for LHP Jovani Moran"
The Red Sox have traded left-hander Jovani Moran to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for infielder Mickey Gasper on Tuesday.
Gasper, who is 29 years old, made his debut in the major leagues in 2024 with the Red Sox. In 13 games, he had four walks and one run but failed to get any hits.
During the 2024 season, Gasper mainly played for Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester, where he had an impressive .328 batting average, 27 doubles, 12 home runs, and 58 RBIs in 92 games. He was selected by the Red Sox from the New York Yankees in the 2023 Rule 5 Draft.
The 27th-round pick of the Yankees in the 2018 draft, Gasper has experience playing four different positions in the minor leagues - first base, second base, third base, and catcher. He has also served as a designated hitter. In his 407 minor league games with the Yankees and Red Sox, he has a batting average of .275, 48 home runs, and 207 RBIs.
On the other hand, Moran, who is 27 years old, had to undergo Tommy John surgery after the 2023 season and did not play in 2024. In his 79 relief appearances with the Twins from 2021-23, he has a record of 2-3 with one save and a 4.15 ERA. He has also recorded 52 walks, 112 strikeouts, and a 1.33 WHIP in 91 innings.
