'Rangers elevate Ross Fenstermaker to General Manager'
The Texas Rangers elevated Ross Fenstermaker to the role of general manager on Monday.
In addition, the organization brought on Cole Figueroa as assistant general manager and Justin Viele as hitting coach.
Fenstermaker, 38, has been serving as vice president and assistant general manager for player development and international operations for the past three years. He has been a part of the team since his internship in 2010, primarily working in the scouting department.
In September, the Rangers promoted former GM Chris Young to the position of president of baseball operations.
Figueroa, 37, joins the Rangers after spending eight seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, most recently as their director of baseball operations.
Viele, 33, has spent the last five seasons as a hitting coach for the San Francisco Giants. He will be taking over for Tim Hyers, who left the Rangers last month to become the hitting coach for the Atlanta Braves.
