Mets acquire RHP Eric Orze from Rays in exchange for OF Jose Siri
On Tuesday, the New York Mets acquired outfielder Jose Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Eric Orze.
Siri, who is 29 years old, is expected to fill the center field position for the Mets, as Harrison Bader is not likely to return to the team.
During his time with the Rays, Siri played in 130 games in 2024, primarily in center field. Despite batting .187, he hit 18 home runs and drove in 47 runs, while also stealing 14 bases.
Over the course of his four-year career in the major leagues, Siri has played for the Houston Astros (2021-2022) and the Rays (2022-2024). He has a career batting average of .210, with 54 home runs, 136 RBIs, and 43 stolen bases in 356 games.
Orze, who is 27 years old, was selected by the Mets in the fifth round of the 2020 draft. He made his major league debut in 2024, but only appeared in two games out of the bullpen, allowing four runs in 1 2/3 innings for a 21.60 ERA.
