"Marlins Release SS Tim Anderson from Roster"

The Miami Marlins have designated Tim Anderson, a two-time All-Star shortstop, for assignment on Tuesday.

Anderson, who is 31 years old, signed a one-year contract worth $5 million with Miami in February, hoping for a successful season. However, that did not happen.

So far this season, Anderson has played 65 games, but his batting average is only .214 and he has not hit any home runs. He has also struck out 68 times and only drawn seven walks.

In 2019, Anderson won the American League batting title with an average of .335 while playing for the Chicago White Sox. He also made the AL All-Star teams in both 2021 and 2022. During his eight seasons with the White Sox from 2016-2023, he had a batting average of .282 and hit 98 home runs, 338 RBIs, and stole 117 bases in 895 games.

In a corresponding move, the Marlins have called up Xavier Edwards from Triple-A Jacksonville. Edwards, who is 24 years old, made his MLB debut last season and had a batting average of .295 with three RBIs in 30 games.

This season, he has played in three games for Miami and has a batting average of .222 with a double in three games.
