The Miami Marlins and manager Skip Schumaker have mutually agreed to part ways after two seasons, as announced by the team on Sunday.

Following a successful season in which Schumaker led the Marlins to an 84-78 record and a playoff appearance as a wild card, the team finished with a disappointing 62-100 record this year. Schumaker was recognized for his efforts by earning National League Manager of the Year honors.

However, before the start of the 2024 season, the Marlins experienced a change in leadership as general manager Kim Ng, who had hired Schumaker, departed from the team. This was due to the organization's decision to hire a president of baseball operations to serve as the top decision-maker above Ng.

As a result, both Schumaker and the Marlins have voided the option on his contract for the 2025 season.

In a statement, Schumaker expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as manager of the Marlins and his pride in the team's accomplishments. He also thanked team chairman and owner Bruce Sherman, the organization, and the fans for their support during his time in Miami.

Marlins president of baseball operations Peter Bendix also released a statement, thanking Schumaker for his contributions to the organization and expressing his respect for the former manager. He wished Schumaker and his family the best in their future endeavors.

Schumaker, who played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Cincinnati Reds, had a successful 11-year career as an outfielder and second baseman, with a .278 batting average. He may be considered for a managerial position with teams such as the Reds, who currently have a vacancy.
