San Diego Padres' Luis Arraez, the National League's top hitter, announced that he had surgery on his left thumb on Wednesday to fix a torn ligament.

Arraez revealed that he played through the injury for the entirety of the second half of the season, which he sustained on June 25 during a headfirst slide into third base on a triple against the Washington Nationals.

\"Today, I had surgery on my thumb after battling through an injury for half of the season,\" Arraez shared on social media from his hospital bed. \"Despite the pain, I continued to play, but it became evident that surgery was necessary for a full recovery. The procedure went well, and now my focus is on healing and regaining full strength.\"

Arraez achieved a .314 batting average this season, securing his third consecutive batting title. He is the first player to win three consecutive titles with three different teams, having also won the American League title in 2022 with the Minnesota Twins and the NL title in 2023 with the Miami Marlins.

At 27 years old, Arraez recorded 200 hits this season, marking his second consecutive year reaching this milestone. He also hit four home runs, 24 doubles, and 41 RBIs in 150 games split between the Padres (117) and Marlins (33).

San Diego acquired Arraez from Miami in early May in exchange for four minor league players.

In 2022, Arraez batted .316 for the Twins and .354 for the Marlins in 2023.

Overall, Arraez boasts a .323 average, 28 home runs, and 247 RBIs in 686 career games over six seasons with the Twins (2019-22), Marlins (2023-24), and Padres.
