'Arizona's Diamondbacks' Star Player, Ketel Marte, Leaves Match Due to Hamstring Injury'

'Hamstring Injury Forces Ketel Marte of the Diamondbacks to Leave the Game'

Arizona's second baseman, Ketel Marte, was taken out of the Washington game during the first inning on Friday due to a suspected hamstring injury while running out a double.

Marte hit a double off the center field fence with one out, but pulled up as he approached second base. He was replaced by pinch-runner Garrett Hampson.

The day before, Marte had signed a six-year, $116.5 million contract extension. Last season, he missed time due to ankle and back injuries, which limited him to 136 games. Despite this, he still finished third in NL MVP voting. In previous years, Marte has also missed time due to hamstring injuries in 2019, 2021, and 2022.

Hampson took over at second base for the remainder of the game.

In the seven games he has played this season, Marte has batted .320 with one RBI and six walks.
