Jose Ramirez of Guardians 3B Sustains Sprained Wrist and Leaves Game

Jose Ramirez of Guardians 3B leaves game due to wrist sprain

The Cleveland Guardians' third baseman, Jose Ramirez, departed from Saturday's matchup against the Kansas City Royals due to a sprained right wrist.

The six-time All-Star sustained the injury while attempting to steal a base in the third inning. He slid in head first in an awkward manner, causing his hand to hit the ground with force.

Despite initially staying in the game, Ramirez was eventually replaced by Gabriel Arias in the bottom of the sixth inning. Prior to his exit, Ramirez had gone 0-for-2 with a walk.

According to Guardians' manager Stephen Vogt, Ramirez's injury is a mild sprain and he is considered day-to-day. However, Vogt acknowledged that Ramirez's determination to play may make it difficult to keep him off the field.

Last season, Ramirez matched his career high of 39 home runs and drove in 118 runs. He also maintained a batting average of .279 over 158 games.
