Ivan Herrera of the Cardinals Leaves Game Due to 'Inflammation in Left Knee'

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Ivan Herrera sustained an injury while running the bases on Sunday and was forced to leave the team's 5-4, 10-inning loss against the Red Sox in Boston during Game 1 of a doubleheader.

Herrera was unable to bear weight on his left leg as he exited the game. The Cardinals provided an update after the game, stating that the injury was due to "inflammation in his left knee."

The seasoned player required assistance as he walked off the field in the third inning after reaching base on a walk and advancing to third on a Nolan Arenado single to left. The inning ended with a popout, and manager Oliver Marmol and trainer Adam Olsen helped Herrera back to the dugout.

At 24 years old, Herrera had a strong start to the season, with a batting average of .400 and four home runs in 20 at-bats over six games leading up to Sunday's game. He went 0-for-1 with a walk in Game 1, lowering his average to .381.
