The Cleveland Guardians put All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday due to inflammation in his mid-back.

The decision is effective as of Saturday.

Additionally, the Guardians called up outfielder Myles Straw from Triple-A Columbus and opened up a spot for him on the 40-man roster by designating right-hander Carlos Carrasco for assignment.

Kwan, 27, has not played since Thursday and missed four starts before being placed on the disabled list prior to Tuesday's home game against the Minnesota Twins.

He currently holds a .291 batting average with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs in 120 games, and has achieved career highs in slugging percentage (.419) and OPS (.783) this season.

Kwan is in his third year with Cleveland and has a .285 batting average with 24 home runs and 149 RBIs in 425 career games. He was named an All-Star this season and has won American League Gold Glove awards for left fielder in 2022 and 2023.

He is eligible to return on September 24th against the Cincinnati Reds, with five regular season games remaining for the Guardians. As of Tuesday, they hold the top spot in the AL Central with a record of 87-64, five games ahead of the second-place Kansas City Royals.

Carrasco, 37, had a 5.64 ERA, 33 walks, and 89 strikeouts in 103 2/3 innings over 21 starts before being placed on the 15-day disabled list with a hip strain.

Throughout his career, he has a record of 110-103 with two saves and a 4.14 ERA in 324 games (277 starts) with Cleveland (2009-11, 2013-20, 2024) and the New York Mets (2021-23).

Carrasco was awarded the 2019 AL Comeback Player of the Year and the 2019 Roberto Clemente Award.

Straw, 29, had a .240 batting average at Triple-A with three home runs and 47 RBIs in 123 games. He last played for Cleveland in 2023, with a .238 batting average, one home run, and 29 RBIs in 147 games.
