Indefinite ban for two spectators who disrupted World Series
In the wake of a disturbing occurrence during the World Series, Major League Baseball has issued an indefinite ban on two spectators from all stadiums and facilities.
John P. Hansen and Austin Capobianco, who were seated in the front row at Game 4 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium in New York, attempted to interfere with Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts as he caught a foul ball hit by Gleyber Torres of the Yankees in the first inning. One of the fans even tried to forcefully take the ball from Betts' glove, while the other grabbed his wrist.
In a letter sent this week, MLB addressed the two fans, stating, "On October 29, 2024, during Game 4 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium, you intentionally and forcefully interfered with play by grabbing a player. Your actions posed a serious threat to the player's health and safety and crossed the line of acceptable fan behavior."
"As a result of your behavior, Major League Baseball (MLB) has banned you indefinitely from all MLB stadiums, offices, and other facilities. You are also prohibited from attending any events sponsored by or associated with MLB."
"Please be aware that if you are found at any MLB property or event, you will be removed from the premises and may face arrest for trespassing."
Both fans were ejected from the game following the incident and were not allowed to attend Game 5 the next evening, when the Dodgers secured the championship.
Neither of the fans were season ticket holders. However, the fan whose seats the two were occupying will still be able to keep their spot in the future, according to MLB.com.
The Yankees ultimately won the game 11-4.
