"IL Placement for Nationals' Star Shortstop CJ Abrams Due to Hip Flexor Injury"

"IL Placement for CJ Abrams, Stellar SS for Nationals, Due to Hip Flexor Injury"

The Washington Nationals have placed their shortstop CJ Abrams on the 10-day injured list due to a right hip flexor strain before their game against the Miami Marlins on Saturday.

Abrams underwent an MRI on Saturday to determine the severity of the injury.

He aggravated the injury while stealing second base in Friday's 7-4 victory over the Marlins and was taken out of the game before the bottom of the fourth inning.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez stated to reporters on Saturday, "We're going to give him some time to see if we can get that to calm down a little bit."

The 2024 All-Star, Abrams, has a .244 batting average with four home runs, seven RBIs, and four steals in 11 games this season.

Martinez is hopeful that the IL stint will resolve the issue, saying, "I'm glad we're able to catch it early and the rest, I think, will definitely help him. He's going to get tons of treatment, and as soon as we could do some baseball activity with him, we'll get him going."

In his four seasons with the San Diego Padres (2022) and Nationals (2022-25), the 24-year-old Abrams has a .244 average with 44 home runs, 157 RBIs, and 89 steals in 390 career games.

In a corresponding move, Washington has recalled infielder Nasim Nunez from Triple-A Rochester. The 24-year-old was batting .192 with five steals and three RBIs in 10 games at Triple-A Rochester. Nunez made his major-league debut with the Nationals last year and posted a .246 average with eight steals in 76 plate appearances spread across 51 games.
