'Flores Takes Option with Giants, Ray Remains with Team'
Veteran Wilmer Flores, an infielder for the San Francisco Giants, exercised his $3.5 million player option for the 2025 season on Saturday.
Meanwhile, southpaw Robbie Ray decided to forego opting out of his five-year, $115 million contract. He is still owed $50 million for the remaining two years.
Flores, now 33 years old, had a tough season in 2024, batting just .206 with four home runs and 26 RBIs in 71 games due to injuries. He did not play after July 23 and had knee surgery on August 6.
However, in 2023, he had a strong year with a .284 batting average, career-high 23 home runs, and 60 RBIs for the Giants.
Overall, Flores has a .260 average with 153 home runs and 532 RBIs in his 12-year career with the New York Mets (2013-18), Arizona Diamondbacks (2019), and San Francisco Giants (2020-24).
On the other hand, Ray only made seven starts in the 2024 season due to injuries and ended with a 3-2 record and a 4.70 ERA.
The 33-year-old left-hander made his season debut on July 24 after recovering from Tommy John surgery. Unfortunately, his last start on August 25 resulted in a left hamstring strain, forcing him to miss the remainder of the season.
