'Dodgers reinstate 1B Freddie Freeman from injured list'
After missing nine games due to an ankle injury, Los Angeles Dodgers standout first baseman Freddie Freeman was activated from the 10-day disabled list on Friday and in the starting lineup for the series opener against the visiting Chicago Cubs.
Freeman re-injured his surgically repaired right ankle on March 30 by slipping in the shower at home and was placed on the injured list three days later.
The veteran first baseman initially hurt his ankle in September and played through the pain during the Dodgers' journey to the World Series. He underwent surgery during the offseason to repair the injury.
The 35-year-old has appeared in three games for the Dodgers this season, recording three hits in 12 at-bats with two home runs and four runs batted in.
The eight-time All-Star is one of the most productive hitters in the league, registering 22 home runs, 89 RBIs, a .282 batting average, and a .378 on-base percentage in 147 games last year. He made history in Game 1 of the World Series with a walk-off grand slam, helping the Dodgers defeat the New York Yankees in five games and earning World Series MVP honors.
