"Diamondbacks put A.J. Puk (elbow) on injured list as closer"

"Diamondbacks put relief pitcher A.J. Puk (elbow injury) on injured list"

The Arizona Diamondbacks have put closer A.J. Puk on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his left pitching elbow. This move was made on Saturday, along with several other changes.

In addition to losing Puk for the next two weeks, the Diamondbacks have sent right-hander Bryce Jarvis and left-hander Joe Mantiply down to Triple-A Reno. However, they have also called up right-hander Drey Jameson from Reno and added right-handers J.P Feyereisen and Juan Morillo to the team. In order to make room for these new additions on the 40-man roster, infielder Grae Kessinger has been designated for assignment.

Puk, who is 29 years old, has a 3.38 ERA in his first eight appearances this season and has successfully converted all four of his save opportunities. He was acquired by the Diamondbacks from the Miami Marlins last year and has a career record of 17-20 with a 3.53 ERA and 26 saves in 212 games (including four starts) with the Oakland Athletics (2019, 2021-22), Marlins (2023-24), and Diamondbacks.

Jarvis, 27, had a 7.36 ERA in six relief appearances this season, while Mantiply, 34, struggled with a 15.95 ERA in eight relief outings. Mantiply had a career-best 3.92 ERA in 75 appearances last season.

Jameson, 27, has a 2.63 ERA in 19 career games (including seven starts) but has not played in the major leagues since 2023.

Feyereisen, 32, is expected to make his debut for the Diamondbacks after posting a 2.95 ERA in parts of four seasons with three different teams.

Morillo, 26, will also make his major league debut after spending eight seasons in the minor leagues.
