Breaking News: Yankees Set to Acquire Slugger Paul Goldschmidt
Experienced first baseman and former MVP of the National League, Paul Goldschmidt, is expected to ink a one-year contract valued at $12.5 million with the New York Yankees, according to multiple sources on Saturday.
Goldschmidt, who is 37 years old, became a free agent after a disappointing season where he recorded a career-low batting average of .245 and hit only 22 home runs, his lowest since 2014 when not accounting for the shortened 2020 season. In addition, his 65 RBIs were the fewest he has had since his debut year in 2011.
However, Goldschmidt's performance improved in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, leading to him being named the National League MVP in 2022 while playing for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Throughout his career, which spans 1,928 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2011-2018) and Cardinals (2019-2024), Goldschmidt has maintained a .289 batting average and has hit 362 home runs and 1,187 RBIs.
