Breaking News: Phillies Set to Ink Outfielder Max Kepler
The Philadelphia Phillies and free agent outfielder Max Kepler have reached an agreement on a one-year, $10 million deal, subject to a physical, as reported by various media outlets on Thursday evening.
The southpaw, who will turn 32 in February, had spent his entire career in the majors with the Minnesota Twins. Kepler appeared in just 105 games last season due to knee and hip injuries, posting a .253 average with 21 doubles, eight home runs, and 42 RBIs. He officially became a free agent on October 31st.
Kepler is expected to fill a corner outfield spot for the Phillies, who did not extend a contract offer to Austin Hays after the season.
The Twins had signed Kepler, a native of Berlin, Germany, as a teenager in 2009. He made his MLB debut at the age of 22 on September 27th, 2015.
Throughout his 1,072 game career, he has a .237 batting average with 161 home runs and 508 RBIs, along with a .318 on-base percentage, .429 slugging percentage, and .746 OPS. His most impressive season was in 2019, when he hit .252 with career-highs in home runs (36) and RBIs (90), as well as tying his career-best with 32 doubles.
