"Braves secure RHP Rafael Montero and cash in trade with Astros"
On Tuesday, the Houston Astros traded veteran right-hander Rafael Montero and cash considerations to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for a player to be named later.
Montero, who is 34 years old, had been a member of the Astros since joining them from the Seattle Mariners in 2021. He played a role in Houston's 2022 World Series win, recording a 1-0 record with a 1.93 ERA in 10 relief appearances (9 1/3 innings) during the postseason.
So far this season, Montero has appeared in three games for the Astros, posting a 4.50 ERA in four innings with no decisions or saves.
Throughout his 11-year career in the MLB, Montero has played for the New York Mets (2014-17), Texas Rangers (2019-20), Seattle (2021), and Houston. He has a record of 22-28 with 30 saves and a 4.71 ERA in 324 appearances (30 starts). Montero has also recorded 464 strikeouts in 466 1/3 innings.
