"Braves Secure C Jason Delay in Trade with Pirates"

Pirates trade C Jason Delay to Braves

The Atlanta Braves have obtained Jason Delay from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for money.

The Braves sent him to Double-A Columbus.

Delay, a seasoned 30-year-old, has played in a total of 134 games for the Pirates in the past three years. During this time, he has hit two home runs, driven in 35 runs, and maintained a .231 batting average.

According to Baseball Reference, Delay has accumulated four defensive runs saved above average while playing behind the plate.

On April 1, the Pirates designated him for assignment.

Delay provides the Braves with a veteran option for depth in their system. To make room for him on the roster, the Braves moved 31-year-old right-handed pitcher Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list.

The Pirates also welcomed 24-year-old outfielder Alexander Canario to their active roster, while sending outfielder/second baseman Ji-Hwan Bae to Triple-A Indianapolis.
