Arizona Diamondbacks put second baseman Ketel Marte (hamstring) on injured list for 10 days
The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed their star second baseman, Ketel Marte, on the 10-day injured list on Saturday due to a strained left hamstring.
In a corresponding move, the Diamondbacks have recalled fellow infielder Tim Tawa from Triple-A Reno.
During Friday's game against the Washington Nationals, Marte sustained the injury while running out a double and was removed from the game in the top of the first inning. He was replaced by pinch runner Garrett Hampson.
Last season, Marte missed playing time due to ankle and back injuries, limiting him to only 136 games. However, he still managed to finish third in NL MVP voting.
The 31-year-old All-Star has a history of hamstring injuries, having missed time in 2019, 2021, and 2022.
So far this season, Marte has a batting average of .346 with one RBI and six runs in eight games.
Throughout his career with the Seattle Mariners (2015-2016) and Diamondbacks, Marte has maintained a .281 batting average with 143 home runs and 516 RBIs in 1,112 games.
Tawa, 25, has been performing well with the Aces this season, batting .391 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in six games.
