"Angels and RHP Kyle Hendricks Reach $3M Agreement, According to Reports"
On Wednesday, the first day of MLB free agency, sources report that free agent right-hander Kyle Hendricks has agreed to a one-year contract worth $3 million with the Los Angeles Angels.
In 2024, Hendricks had a record of 4-12 while playing for the Chicago Cubs.
Throughout his 11-year career, Hendricks has been a member of the Cubs and had a strong finish last season after being briefly removed from the rotation. However, he struggled with a career-worst 5.92 ERA in 29 games (24 starts) for the Cubs, marking his third season in the past four years with an ERA over 4.75.
Hendricks' average fastball speed is 87.4 mph, but he consistently ranks near the top of MLB advanced metrics in limiting hard contact.
The Angels' projected rotation for 2025 includes right-hander Jose Soriano (26) and lefty Tyler Anderson (34), with the possibility of additional acquisitions. Last week, the Angels traded starter Griffin Canning to the Braves in exchange for Jorge Soler. They also have right-hander Jack Kochanowicz and left-hander Reid Detmers to round out the starting five.
Hendricks will turn 35 on December 7. In his 11 seasons in the MLB, he has played in 276 games and has a record of 97-81 with an ERA of 3.68.
