The Cleveland Guardians have selected right-hander Alex Cobb as their starting pitcher for Game 1 of the American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees.

On Monday, Cobb will face off against Yankees' left-hander Carlos Rodon.

Due to a hip surgery and shoulder inflammation, Cobb was unable to make his season debut until August 9th. He only made three starts during the regular season.

During his last regular season start on September 1st, Cobb had a perfect game going until the seventh inning when he gave up an infield single. He then had to sit out for another month due to a torn fingernail and blister.

In the AL Division Series against the Detroit Tigers, the 37-year-old Cobb returned for Game 3 and allowed two runs on three hits in three innings. Despite his efforts, the Guardians lost 3-0. It is expected that Cobb will have a larger role in Monday's game after throwing 41 pitches in his previous outing.

Throughout his 13 seasons in the major leagues, Cobb has a record of 79-76 with a 3.84 ERA in 233 starts. He has played for the Tampa Bay Rays (2011-17), Baltimore Orioles (2018-20), Los Angeles Angels (2021), San Francisco Giants (2022-23), and now the Guardians. He was also selected as an All-Star in 2023.

Cobb was traded from the Giants to the Guardians on July 30th while he was still on the injured list due to his shoulder inflammation.
