Alex Bregman, 3B free agent, had a surgery on his elbow
Veteran Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman underwent a procedure to remove a bone spur from his right elbow, as confirmed by his agent Scott Boras on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old, who is currently a free agent, dealt with this issue towards the end of the season. Boras stated that Bregman is expected to resume hitting in a few weeks.
According to Astros general manager Dana Brown, the top priority for the team this offseason is to re-sign the two-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion. Brown also mentioned that the discussions with Boras have been "productive", but they are still in the early stages, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
In the 2024 season, Bregman had a batting average of .260 with 26 home runs and 75 RBIs in 145 games. It was his ninth season with the Astros. Although his .768 OPS was the lowest of his career, he did receive his first Gold Glove award.
Selected as the No. 2 overall pick by the Astros in 2015, Bregman has a career batting average of .272 with 191 home runs and 663 RBIs in 1,111 games. He was an All-Star in 2018 and 2019 and was a part of the World Series winning teams in 2017 and 2022.
