NASCAR playoffs 2025 race schedule, results: Complete list of Cup Series race dates, winners, tracks

After 26 races to get to this point, 16 drivers have done what they've needed to do in order to stand out above the rest of the NASCAR Cup Series field. Now, the NASCAR playoffs begin, with 10 races and four rounds separating one driver from the Bill France Cup and the right to forever be called a NASCAR Cup Series champion.

It only took one set of corners for trouble to start striking playoff contenders in the opening race of the playoffs, as Josh Berry started the Southern 500 and his first playoff appearance by spinning out and crashing in Turn 2 on the opening lap at Darlington. While Berry, Ryan Blaney, Alex Bowman and others either suffered major setbacks or had to come back from major adversity in the playoff opener, Chase Briscoe earned peace of mind with a second-straight Southern 500 win that has made him the first driver to advance to the next round.

NASCAR playoffs rules

The rules of the NASCAR playoffs are fairly straightforward. There are three rounds of the playoffs, with each comprised of three races, in which the bottom four in the playoff standings at the end of the round are eliminated. Drivers can earn their way to the next round by winning a race, or by earning enough points to stay above the cut line.

After the Round of 16, the Round of 12, and the Round of 8 whittle the field down, the final four drivers in the playoff standings will compete in the Championship 4, a pure match race for the championship. Whoever is the highest finisher of the Championship 4 drivers in the season finale at Phoenix Raceway will win the NASCAR Cup Series championship.
