Panthers' Damarri Mathis: Tears ACL
Head coach Dave Canales told reporters Friday that Mathis tore his ACL and will undergo surgery, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
The 26-year-old defensive back sustained a non-contact injury during Carolina's practice Wednesday that was later confirmed to be a torn ACL. Mathis, who was claimed from the Broncos in late August, posted three total tackles and one pass defended across 75 defensive snaps in 2024.

Panthers' Damien Lewis: Past injuries
Lewis (shoulder/ankle) carries no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Jaguars.
Lewis was held to limited participation in practice throughout the week due to ankle and shoulder injuries, but it now appears he'll play through the issues in Carolina's regular-season opener. The second-year Panther is expected to serve as the team's top left guard during the 2025 campaign.

Panthers' Ikem Ekwonu: Doubtful for Week 1
Ekwonu (appendectomy) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's contest against the Jaguars.
The 2022 first-round pick upgraded to a limited session Friday after missing practice Wednesday and Thursday, but he's still unlikely to play in Week 1 after undergoing an emergency appendectomy in late August. Yosh Nijman is likely the start at left tackle until Ekwonu returns to full health.

Panthers' Robert Hunt: Ready for Sunday
Hunt (foot) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Jaguars.
Despite practicing in a limited fashion throughout the week, Hunt will suit up and serve as Carolina's top right guard Sunday. The 29-year-old has missed only one contest since joining the Panthers in 2024 and will look to build on his first Pro Bowl campaign as he heads into the 2025 season.

Panthers' Ja'Tavion Sanders: Listed as No. 1 tight end
Sanders is listed as the Panthers' top tight end on the first unofficial depth chart of the 2025 regular season, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
Sanders is listed above Tommy Tremble, who missed most of training camp and the preseason while recovering from offseason back surgery. While Sanders was always expected to handle the majority of pass-catching reps at tight end entering Year 2, while Tremble would see more blocking work, this development bodes well for the second-year pro's odds of leading the team in snaps at the position. With Jalen Coker (quadriceps) on IR to begin the season and Adam Thielen having been traded to Minnesota, Sanders' outlook in terms of volume has improved heading into Sunday's regular-season opener against the Jaguars.

Panthers' Hunter Renfrow: Listed as starter on depth chart
Renfrow is listed as a starter on Carolina's first unofficial depth chart of the regular season.
Renfrow re-signed with the Panthers on Saturday after being released on cutdown day. He spent training camp with Carolina and is set to operate in the slot while Tetairoa McMillan and Xavier Legette work on the outside. Renfrow's ascent up the depth chart was spurred on by the Panthers trading fellow veteran slot receiver Adam Thielen to Minnesota and Jalen Coker (quadriceps) going on IR.
