Top Cowboys News

  • Cowboys' Marshawn Kneeland: Collects first career sack

Kneeland recorded three tackles, including his first career sack, in Thursday's loss to the Eagles.

The second-year defensive end picked up the Cowboys' first sack of the post-Micah Parsons era, bringing down Jalen Hurts midway through the third quarter. It was the only sack of the game for the Dallas defense. Kneeland played only 11 games as a rookie last season due to a knee injury after being selected in the second round, but the Western Michigan product should be in for a big role in the pass-rush rotation this year as the team tries to replace Parsons' relentless pressure.

  • Cowboys' Kenneth Murray: Leading tackler against Philly

Murray recorded nine tackles (four solo) in Thursday's loss to the Eagles.

Matt Eberflus' defensive scheme tends to boost the tackle totals of his linebackers, and Murray was the recipient of that boost in Week 1 as he tied safety Malik Hooker for the team lead in tackles for Dallas. Murray could have some IDP value in deeper formats, but DeMarvion Overshown (knee) should be the team's impact player at linebacker once he comes off the PUP list.

  • Cowboys' Luke Schoonmaker: Just one target Thursday

Schoonmaker failed to catch his only target in Thursday's 24-20 loss to the Eagles.

The third-year tight end had a limited role, as expected, while working behind starter Jake Ferguson. Schoonmaker's hold on the No. 2 spot on the depth chart may not be secure, either, despite his standing as a 2023 second-round pick -- he played 15 snaps on offense to Brevyn Spann-Ford's 10, and the latter made a more noticeable impact with his blocking.

  • Cowboys' KaVontae Turpin: Four touches in Thursday's loss

Turpin carried the ball twice for nine yards, caught both his targets for 18 yards and added 81 yards on four kickoff returns in Thursday's 24-20 loss to the Eagles.

The new kickoff rules helped Turpin gain a big chunk of all-purpose yards, but the fourth-year wideout didn't see a significantly larger role on offense than he did in 2024 -- he saw at least four touches on six occasions last year. Turpin is a threat for a big play whenever he gets the ball in his hands, but outside of formats that reward return yards, his fantasy value remains limited.

  • Cowboys' Jalen Tolbert: Little usage in opener

Tolbert caught one of two targets for zero yards in Thursday's 24-20 loss to the Eagles.

The Cowboys' target tree was narrow in their season opener, with CeeDee Lamb (13 targets), Jake Ferguson (six) and George Pickens (four) accounting for 23 of Dak Prescott's 34 throws on the night. Tolbert has little competition for the third spot on Dallas' wide receiver depth chart, but at least based on the first game with Brian Schottenheimer calling plays, it doesn't seem as though it's a role that will lead to much volume for the fourth-year player. Tolbert will try to get more involved Week 2 against the Giants.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Costly fumble in Week 1 loss

Sanders rushed four times for 53 yards, caught his only target for minus-3 yards and lost a fumble in Thursday's 24-20 loss to the Eagles.

Sanders worked in a change-of-pace role behind Javonte Williams, who established himself as the top option in Dallas' remade backfield by rushing 15 times for 54 yards and two touchdowns. Sanders ripped off a 49-yard run in the third quarter but fumbled later on the same drive. Dak Prescott made a touchdown-saving tackle to bail Sanders out to an extent, but that red-zone fumble still proved costly in the four-point loss. Rookie fifth-round pick Jaydon Blue was a healthy scratch Thursday, but any further ball security issues from Sanders could open the door for Blue to usurp the veteran as Williams' backup.

  • Cowboys' Brandon Aubrey: Busy first half in Week 1 loss

Aubrey made both of his field-goal attempts and a pair of PATs in Thursday's 24-20 loss to the Eagles.

The Cowboys started hot on offense, scoring touchdowns on their first two drives before setting Aubrey up for field goals of 41 and 53 yards. After making the latter kick to close out the first half, Aubrey didn't get another chance to add to his total as Philadelphia's defense stepped up in the second half. Aubrey's mix of power and accuracy is elite, so he should remain one of the top kickers in fantasy as long as Dallas' offense moves the ball at a decent clip.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Five grabs to open season

Ferguson brought in five of six targets for 23 yards in the Cowboys' 24-20 loss to the Eagles on Thursday night.

Ferguson finished second in receptions on the Cowboys to CeeDee Lamb and third in receiving yards, although the latter total was a reflection of a low-volume passing night for Dallas. Nevertheless, it was encouraging to see Ferguson as Dak Prescott's second-favorite target on the night, as it was a reminder of the chemistry between the two that was nullified by Prescott's season-ending hamstring avulsion in Week 9 of last season. Ferguson could remain similarly busy during the Cowboys' Week 2 home opener against the Giants on Sunday, Sept. 14.
