Thompson (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.

Thompson popped up on Friday's injury report with a hamstring injury that limited his practice participation Friday. Even if he gains clearance to play, Thompson isn't expected to be anything more than the emergency third quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph.

Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson said Thursday that Penix, who did not suit up for any preseason action, is "ready to go" for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Buccaneers, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

Penix said, "I pride myself to make sure that each and every week I'm always ready come game day," though he acknowledged that "the biggest difference is the reps," or lack thereof, as he prepares for the fourth regular-season start of his NFL career. The presence of star playmakers Bijan Robinson and Drake London will assist Penix in his goal of hitting the ground running, and it's encouraging that Darnell Mooney (shoulder) has returned to practice in a limited capacity and seems to have a shot at playing Week 1. On the other hand, Atlanta's offensive line had looked like one of the team's major strengths the entire offseason, but with Kaleb McGary (leg) now done for the year and swing backup Storm Norton (ankle) out 6-to-8 weeks, third-stringer Elijah Wilkinson is expected to start at right tackle. The lack of reliable blindside protection will be a notable hurdle for the southpaw signal-caller to overcome Sunday and throughout the 2025 campaign.

Prescott completed 21 of 34 passes for 188 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions while adding one rush for three yards in the Cowboys' 34-20 loss to the Eagles on Thursday night.

Prescott spearheaded the upset-minded Cowboys through a productive first two quarters that had Dallas up by a 14-7 margin at one point. The initial two drives culminated in Javonte Williams rushing touchdowns, and Prescott played mistake-free football while frequently focusing on top target CeeDee Lamb. However, Prescott and new addition George Pickens had some trouble connecting in their first game together -- albeit because of defensive pass interference in one instance -- and Lamb then failed to find the handle on a couple of the quarterback's throws in the fourth quarter, including on a perfectly thrown fourth-down lob down the left side of the field that Lamb dove for but couldn't secure. Prescott and Pickens will have some extra time to build chemistry ahead of the Cowboys' Week 2 game, which will be their home opener against the Giants on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Hurts completed 19 of 23 passes for 152 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed 14 times for 62 yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles' 24-20 win over the Cowboys on Thursday night.

As his final indicates, Hurts was near perfect through the air, but he averaged just 6.6 yards per attempt and saw top two wideouts A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith finish with a combined 4-24-0 line on four targets. However, Hurts was a force on the ground, logging the second-most carries for the Eagles behind Saquon Barkley and outpacing his fellow star by two yards for the team rushing lead while also scoring from four and eight yards out on the ground in the first half. Hurts also converted several key short-yardage opportunities, including a third-and-3 with 1:45 remaining via a four-yard scramble that essentially sealed the game for Philadelphia. Hurts completed passes to six different targets overall, and considering he only went without a touchdown toss in two games last season during which he played a normal allotment of snaps, the reigning Super Bowl MVP is likely due for much better passing numbers in a Week 2 rematch with the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 14.

New Orleans cut Dekkers from the practice squad Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Dekkers' removal makes room on the Saints' practice squad for linebacker Garrett Nelson. Dekkers will look to catch on with another team that is in need of a scout team quarterback.

Keenum (leg) was absent from the Bears' estimated injury report Thursday.

Keenum missed the Bears' last two preseason games due to a leg injury. His absence from Thursday's injury report indicates that he is past the issue and is on track to serve as the Bears' QB3 behind Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent for Monday's regular-season opener against the Vikings at Soldier Field.

VanSumeren was diagnosed with a torn patella tendon Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

VanSumeren suffered the injury on the opening kickoff of Philadelphia's Week 1 matchup against the Cowboys. He was placed on injured reserve earlier Friday and will be sidelined for the rest of the season.

McCaffrey (calf), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Seattle, said Friday that he "feels great" and is preparing to suit up Week 1, David Lombardi of SFStandard.com reports.

Prior to McCaffrey's comments, coach Kyle Shanahan told Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News that McCaffrey's calf injury "came up" Thursday, when the RB was a limited participant, and that he didn't practice at all Friday. The 49ers seemingly will give McCaffrey the next 48 hours to put himself in a position to lead the backfield Sunday, but with a 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff on tap, there won't be as many options to pivot to if he ends up being sidelined. Currently, Brian Robinson and Isaac Guerendo are the healthy running backs on San Francisco's active roster.

James (finger) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's contest in Seattle, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The broken finger that James suffered in early August thus is poised to delay the rookie fifth-round pick's pro debut. Whenever he's healthy, though, there may be a chance for him to mix into the 49ers backfield if Christian McCaffrey's recent calf injury lingers or even develops into Achilles tendinitis as it did a season ago. At the moment, Brian Robinson and Isaac Guerendo are the healthy running backs on San Francisco's active roster.

The Eagles placed VanSumeren (knee) on injured reserve Friday.

VanSumeren was injured on the opening kickoff Thursday night against Dallas and was carted off the field with what appeared to be a significant knee injury. It's unclear at this point if he has a chance to return in 2025, but VanSumeren will be required to miss at least the next four games.

Mullings (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Broncos.

Mullings appeared to be past the ankle issue, as he wasn't listed on the injury report Wednesday or Thursday, but he was added as a limited participant in Friday's practice. It's possible Mullings suffered a setback. With Tyjae Spears (ankle, IR) already out, Tony Pollard could be in line for a big workload Sunday in Denver.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that McCaffrey (calf) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Seattle, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Shanahan added that McCaffrey's calf injury "came up yesterday" in reference to the running back's limited practice Thursday, per Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News, and that he didn't take part in any drills Friday. With his status for Week 1 up in the air and a 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff on tap Sunday, Brian Robinson and Isaac Guerendo are the 49ers' healthy backfield options in the event McCaffrey is inhibited or even sidelined.

Worthy is questionable to return to Friday's game against the Chargers in Sao Paolo, Brazil due to a shoulder injury.

Worthy was a victim of some friendly fire on the Chiefs' opening possession when he was sideswiped by TE Travis Kelce on an underneath route. He remained down for a bit before making his way to the sideline in visible pain. After team trainers checked him out, Worthy then made his way to the locker room.

Flournoy reverted to Dallas' practice squad Friday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Flournoy played 14 snaps on special teams after the Cowboys elevated him for their season opener at Philadelphia, but now he'll head back to the practice squad until further notice. Dallas has just four healthy wide receivers on its active roster, so it wouldn't be shocking if they considered elevating Flournoy from the practice squad again in Week 2 versus the Giants.

Watkins (ankle) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game at Seattle, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Watkins suffered a high ankle sprain during San Francisco's preseason opener versus the Broncos, and it's now looking like there's a good chance he'll have to sit out of Week 1 action as he continues to recover. The 49ers have just four healthy wide receivers going into the weekend, so there's a good chance they make a practice squad elevation prior to kickoff Sunday.

Thornton is a candidate to see added work early on this season, with Rashee Rice (suspension) set to miss the Chiefs' first six games, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

In Rice's absence, Xavier Worthy is in line to have a high profile in the passing offense, while Hollywood Brown and Thornton also figure to factor in, per Rapoport. Thornton earned a roster spot with a strong training camp, and now the speedster has a chance to make his mark out of the gate this season. Also in the team's WR mix are veteran option JuJu Smith-Schuster, with Jason Brownlee and Nikko Remigio on hand as well.

Noel is set for a larger role for the Texans on Sunday versus the Rams with Christian Kirk (hamstring) and Braxton Berrios (hamstring) ruled out for the game, Sam Warren of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Both Kirk's duties out of the slot and Berrios' as a punt returner appear as if they'll fall on Noel's shoulders in the latter's pro debut. A rookie third-round pick, Noel racked up an 80-1,194-8 line on 125 targets at Iowa State last season and also turned 13 punt returns into 199 yards (15.3 per), earning Big 12 Co-Special Teams Player of the Year honors in the process. Noel, along with rookie second-rounder Jayden Higgins, will be in the mix for targets from QB C.J. Stroud behind top WR Nico Collins.

Higgins is in line for an elevated role in the Texans' passing game Sunday against the Rams after fellow WR Christian Kirk (hamstring) was ruled out for that contest.

Higgins isn't a candidate to take on Kirk's role in the slot, as fellow rookie Jaylin Noel should handle most of those duties, but targets have opened up a bit behind top option Nico Collins. In three appearances this preseason, Higgins recorded a modest 5-40-0 line on seven targets. However, the 2025 second-round pick is coming off a final season at Iowa State in which he averaged 13.6 yards per catch and 8.6 yards per target, so he could make a bigger impact if he's deployed on routes further down the field.

Wiley (coach's decision) is inactive for Friday's game against the Chargers, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.

Wiley appeared in seven regular-season games for the Chiefs as a rookie in 2024, though he saw only 97 total snaps. He slipped behind Robert Tonyan on the depth chart this offseason and will begin 2025 on the inactive list.

Gadsden (coach's decision) is listed as inactive for Friday's game versus Kansas City, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.

The Chargers apparently feel good rolling into Week 1 with just Will Dissly and Tyler Conklin available at tight end, so Gadsden will have to wait at least another week to make his regular-season debut. His absence might mean a few more snaps from the slot for Keenan Allen.

Schoonmaker failed to catch his only target in Thursday's 24-20 loss to the Eagles.

The third-year tight end had a limited role, as expected, while working behind starter Jake Ferguson. Schoonmaker's hold on the No. 2 spot on the depth chart may not be secure, either, despite his standing as a 2023 second-round pick -- he played 15 snaps on offense to Brevyn Spann-Ford's 10, and the latter made a more noticeable impact with his blocking.

Likely (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday night's season opener against the Bills.

Likely didn't practice this week, so it's not a surprise that he'll be sidelined Sunday. As for the tight end's status beyond Week 1, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com noted that Likely was running on a side field Friday, which is a positive sign relative to his chances of returning in the next couple of weeks. As long as Likely remains sidelined, however, fellow TE Mark Andrews figures to be busy, with Charlie Kolar also mixing in at the position.

Whiteheart (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plan Dealer reports.

Whiteheart gained clearance with full participation in practice Friday following a pair of limited sessions. He's a distant third on the depth chart behind David Njoku and rookie third-round pick Harold Fannin.

Waller (hip) has been ruled out for Sunday's season opener against the Colts, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.

Per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com, Waller suffered a hip strain this week, and the injury setback will be enough to sideline the tight end Week 1. In Waller's absence versus Indianapolis, fellow TEs Julian Hill and Tanner Conner are in line for added opportunities, while Greg Dulcich and Hayden Rucci are potential practice-squad elevations.

The Bills placed Bass (left hip/groin) on injured reserve Friday.

Bass dealt with what at the time was termed a pelvic injury in the early days of training camp but still was able to suit up in Buffalo's preseason finale, connecting on three of four field-goal attempts and both point-after tries. He then mustered just one limited practice during Week 1 prep due to left hip and groin concerns before the team made the decision to shut him down for at least the first four games of the season. The Bills will need to elevate Matt Prater from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of Sunday night's showdown with the Ravens.

Elliott made a 58-yard field-goal attempt and all three PAT tries in Thursday's 24-20 win over the Cowboys.

Elliott missed eight field-goal attempts and didn't connect on a kick longer than 50 yards in the 2024 regular season, but he could be in the early stages of a bounce-back campaign, as his lone field goal Thursday came from three yards shy of his career long. Philadelphia's short-yardage success and aggressiveness led to more PAT tries than field-goal attempts for Elliott, but he can provide fantasy utility if he regains the accuracy that helped him miss three or fewer field-goal attempts in each of the 2021, 2022 and 2023 regular seasons.

Aubrey made both of his field-goal attempts and a pair of PATs in Thursday's 24-20 loss to the Eagles.

The Cowboys started hot on offense, scoring touchdowns on their first two drives before setting Aubrey up for field goals of 41 and 53 yards. After making the latter kick to close out the first half, Aubrey didn't get another chance to add to his total as Philadelphia's defense stepped up in the second half. Aubrey's mix of power and accuracy is elite, so he should remain one of the top kickers in fantasy as long as Dallas' offense moves the ball at a decent clip.

Bass (left hip/groin) won't practice Friday, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.

Per coach Sean McDermott, the Bills have yet to rule anyone out (including Bass) for Sunday's season opener against the Ravens, but at this stage it looks like veteran kicker Matt Prater, who is on Buffalo's practice squad, may be filling in for the team this weekend.

Bass (hip/groin) didn't practice Thursday.

Bass is trending in the wrong direction, as he was unable to take the practice field Thursday due to left hip and groin injuries after logging a limited session Wednesday. The Bills signed veteran kicker Matt Prater to their practice squad Thursday, giving them an alternative within the organization if Bass is unavailable against the Ravens on Sunday Night Football in Week 1.

Bass (hip/groin) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Bass dealt with the injury during the preseason but was able to kick in the Bills' preseason finale 11 days ago. Assuming he didn't suffer a setback in the week-plus since, Bass should be okay for Sunday night's Week 1 opener against the Ravens.

Sorrell (knee) was a limited participant in Friday's practice and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Lions, Wes Hodklewicz of the Packers' official site reports.

The rookie fourth-rounder has been limited in practice all week while tending to a left knee injury. Sorrell is expected to serve in a rotational role at defensive end and could see additional work on defense if the Packers elect to limit Micah Parsons' (back) snap count.

Roach (calf) is listed as out for Sunday's game versus Tennessee, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.

Roach popped up on Denver's injury report with a calf issue Thursday before missing practice Friday, and now he'll have to sit out Sunday. In his stead, Jordan Jackson could see an increased snap count on the defensive line in Week 1.

Witherspoon (knee) does not carry an injury designation into Sunday's game versus Houston, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.

Witherspoon popped up on the Rams' injury report with a knee issue Thursday, but it was apparently minor and won't stop him from suiting up in Week 1. With Christian Kirk ruled out for Sunday with a hamstring issue, Witherspoon figures to be lining up mostly against Nico Collins and Jayden Higgins when he's on the field.

Gross-Matos (knee) does not have an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athleticreports.

Gross-Matos did not practice Wednesday or Friday, but he got in a limited session Thursday. That's enough for him to suit up, and he should have a rotational role along the San Francisco defensive line.

Norman-Lott (ankle) is inactive for Friday's game against the Chargers, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.

Norman-Lott was a limited practice participant all week, but his NFL debut will have to wait. Given his practice status, he should have a good chance of suiting up for Week 2 against the Eagles.

Greenlaw (quadriceps) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Titans, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.

Greenlaw's absence Sunday comes as no surprise after he missed the entire week of practice due to a quadriceps injury. The first-year Bronco appeared in two games for the 49ers in 2024 after recovering from a torn Achilles, posting nine total tackles on just 34 defensive snaps. Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports that Justin Strnad is expected to fill in for Greenlaw at linebacker during Denver's regular-season opener.
