The World No. 1 looked the part in the first set on Friday night in New York. Sinner easily broke Auger Aliassime in his opening service game before closing things out with a second to go on to win it 6-1. Sinner's dominant return game is arguably the best in the world right now and he is frustrating the powerful Canadian early on. Auger Aliassime will need to find some better service or this will be over quickly.
US Open 2025: Live updates, results, bracket, schedule, scores as Jannik Sinner takes the court in semis
We've reached the home stretch of the final major of the year
The 2025 US Open has reached the final run as the semifinals began Thursday night. There has been plenty of drama, upsets and thrilling action as we head toward the final weekend of the event.
In the first semifinal, No. 4 Jessica Pegula took on top seed Aryna Sabalenka and put herself in position for a major upset by taking the first set, 6-4. But a visibly frustrated Sabalenka responded by roaring out of the gates in the second set with an early break and cruising from there. The third set was more of a challenge, but Sabalenka -- the defending champion -- prevailed to wrap up a spot in Saturday's final.
Sabalenka will face No. 8 Amanda Anisimova, who rallied after losing the first set to oust No. 23 seed Naomi Osaka, a two-time US Open champion. New Jersey native Anisimova will play in her first US Open final and second grand slam final after playing for the Wimbledon championship in July. She also owns a 6-3 record against Sabalenka.

Things continued to heat up on Friday as No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz took down No. 7 Novak Djokovic to return to the US Open final for the first time since 2022. Alcaraz has yet to drop a set at the Grand Slam this year and looks poised to contend for a second major title this year. He awaits the winner of No. 1 Jannik Sinner and No. 25 Felix Auger-Aliassime, who play in the night session. If Sinner wins, it would mark the third straight final showdown between Alcaraz and Sinner.

Novak Djokovic came up short in his bid to return to a major final on Friday, falling to Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets in the US Open semifinal. Djokovic was game to seek the upset in the first two sets, including pushing the second set to a tiebreak. Djokovic's serve faltered during the tiebreak and in the third set as fatigue appeared to catch up to the (age?) down the stretch. Alcaraz moves to the finals, where yet another Grand Slam final match with Janik Sinner could be waiting if Sinner wins his semifinal match this evening.

The last semifinal match is set to begin shortly where No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner looks to continue his run of dominance against No. 25 Felix Auger Aliassime. Sinner has dropped just one set all tournament, but he does hold a losing record against 'FAA' in three matchups. Sinner won their most recent showdown last month in Cincinnati 6-0, 6-2. A win would mark five straight Grand Slam finals appearances for the Italian with just one loss -- to Carlos Alcaraz at the French Open earlier this year.
