Dodgers' Will Smith: Will have to manage bone bruise
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Smith has a bone bruise in his right hand that he'll likely have to manage for the rest of the season, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
A CT scan cleared Smith of any fractures, but he's likely to be held out of action all weekend and could have to deal with discomfort down the stretch of the season. Dalton Rushing is starting at catcher Friday in Baltimore and Ben Rortvedt has been added to the roster as Rushing's backup while Smith is sidelined.

Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow: Dealing with back tightness
Manager Dave Roberts said Glasnow was scratched from Friday's scheduled start due to back tightness, and the plan is to have Glasnow make a start "early next week," Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Glasnow reported the back issue Friday afternoon, prompting the Dodgers to replace him on the mound with Shohei Ohtani for Friday night's game against Baltimore. It's unclear exactly when Glasnow will make his next start, but it seems as though he'll pitch during a three-game home series against the Rockies that starts Monday. That is, assuming Glasnow's back heals without issue.

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Starting on mound Friday
Ohtani will be the Dodgers' starting pitcher for Friday's game in Baltimore.
Ohtani had to be scratched from his last scheduled start on the bump due to illness, and manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that the 31-year-old would rejoin the rotation Monday versus the Rockies. However, he's been moved up to Friday instead. Ohtai will also be in his usual designated hitter and leadoff spots Friday. Tyler Glasnow had been slated to start Friday's series opener, but he'll presumably now take the ball Saturday instead.

Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow: Scratched from start
The Dodgers scratched Glasnow from his scheduled start Friday against Baltimore for undisclosed reasons, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.
More information regarding the reason for the change is expected to come later Friday, but for now, Glasnow won't make the start Friday. Shohei Ohtani will toe the rubber instead. Glasnow has struggled with command in his last two starts, throwing 112 of 183 pitches for strikes. He threw seven innings and 100 pitches in his most recent outing.

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Begins rehab assignment
Muncy (oblique) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday.
Muncy started the game at third base and played five innings before being removed. He also went 1-for-4 with a single. Assuming Muncy avoids a setback, he is expected back during the Dodgers' homestand that begins Monday.

Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Cranks 15th homer in loss
Betts went 1-for-4 with a solo home in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Pirates.
The 32-year-old shortstop smacked his 15th homer of the year, and he now has at least one hit in five of his last six outings. Betts has found himself in a season-long slump -- his .701 OPS is well on pace to be the worst mark of his career by far -- but his overall fantasy upside should remain decent from the top part of the Dodgers' lineup. Through 568 plate appearances, Betts is slashing a pedestrian .250/.322/.379 with 18 doubles, 61 RBI, 83 runs scored and eight stolen bases.

Dodgers' Blake Snell: Knocked around in fourth loss
Snell (3-4) took the loss Thursday against the Pirates, allowing five runs on nine hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out six.
Snell established season worsts in both hits and runs allowed Thursday, and he walked multiple batters for the seventh time in eight starts this year. On a positive note, the veteran southpaw fanned at least five for the fifth time in his last six outings, and he's worked at least five frames in seven appearances in 2025. Snell has a 3.19 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 44:21 K:BB over 42.1 innings overall, and he's set to get a favorable home matchup against the last-place Rockies his next time out.

Dodgers' Alex Freeland: Returning to Triple-A
The Dodgers optioned Freeland to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
The move comes in order to make room on the active roster for Ben Rortvedt, who was selected by the Dodgers on Thursday as Will Smith battles a hand injury. Alexis Diaz was also designated for assignment as part of the move. Freeland got the call at the end of July and slashed .190/.292/.310 across his first 97 plate appearances in the big leagues. The rookie infielder had been filling in for a multitude of Dodgers on the injured list, such as Max Muncy, Tommy Edman, Enrique Hernandez and Hyeseong Kim. With some of them nearing a return or having already returned, Freeland might not rejoin the Dodgers in 2025.

Dodgers' Alexis Diaz: Loses roster spot with Dodgers
The Dodgers designated Diaz for assignment Thursday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Diaz lost his 40-man roster spot to make room for Ben Rortvedt, who was selected by the Dodgers on Thursday as Will Smith battles a hand injury. Diaz had a 4.15 ERA across 8.1 innings with the Dodgers since making his team debut July 22. He also had an 8.10 ERA across 10 innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City since being dealt by the Reds at the end of May.

Dodgers' Ben Rortvedt: Added to roster
The Dodgers selected Rortvedt's contract from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday.
Will Smith is undergoing a CT scan on his right hand and is expected to be out for at least a few days, so Rortvedt will be up to provide catching depth behind Dalton Rushing. Rortvedt was acquired from the Rays at the trade deadline.

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Next start on mound coming Monday
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that Ohtani's (illness) next start as a pitcher will come Monday at home against the Rockies, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Ohtani was scratched from a scheduled outing Wednesday in Pittsburgh because he was under the weather, and he won't return to the bump until Monday. The 31-year-old will continue to hit until then, as he is in his usual designated hitter and leadoff spots for Thursday's contest against the Pirates.

Dodgers' Will Smith: Likely out until next week
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that Smith (hand) is undergoing a CT scan, and it's "probably unlikely" the catcher will play this weekend against the Orioles, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Smith had to be removed from Wednesday's game in Pittsburgh after a foul tip caught him in the right hand. He's not in Thursday's lineup and could require a stint on the 10-day injured list, pending results of the CT scan. Ben Rortvedt will be added to the roster as a third catcher, and Dalton Rushing will handle the bulk of the starts behind the plate while Smith is out.

Dodgers' Will Smith: Sitting out with bruised hand
Smith (hand) is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Pittsburgh.
Smith had to be removed from Wednesday's contest when his right hand was struck by a ball while he was catching. He avoided any broken bones, but he'll get a little more rest as he deals with a contusion. Dalton Rushing is catching and batting ninth in Thursday's series finale.

Dodgers' Alex Vesia: Starts rehab assignment
Vesia (oblique) struck out one in a perfect inning in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
Vesia has missed the last two weeks of action with a right oblique strain but didn't seem to show any rust in his first rehab outing. The reliever could make one more rehab appearance before being activated from the 15-day injured list on Sunday, the first day he's eligible.

Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Falls to Pirates
Sheehan (5-3) took the loss Thursday against the Pirates, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks across 4.2 innings. He struck out six.
While Sheehan was stuck with the loss as the Dodgers were shut out 3-0, it was a fair outing overall for the right-hander, with both of Pittsburgh's runs coming on solo homers in the first and second innings. Overall, Sheehan sports a 3.59 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP and 60:18 K:BB across 52.2 innings this season. It was originally reported that Sheehan's turn in the rotation would be skipped before he was ultimately announced as the starter Wednesday afternoon. It remains to be seen if he'll be relegated to the bullpen or continue to work in the rotation going forward.

Dodgers' Will Smith: Exits with bruised hand
Smith was removed from Wednesday's game against the Pirates with a right hand contusion.
Smith took a pitch off his right hand while catching in the second inning and was lifted for a pinch hitter in the following frame. The fact that the Dodgers are labeling his injury as a contusion suggests the veteran backstop avoided structural damage, though he could still sit out a game or two while he recovers.
