Phillies' Nick Castellanos: Falling into short-side platoon
Castellanos is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Miami.
Castellanos has now been absent from the lineup each of the last three times the Phillies have faced a right-handed batter, as he appears to have fallen into a short-side platoon. He's slashing only .199/.253/.309 since the All-Star break. Max Kepler will start in right field and bat seventh for Friday's series opener.

Phillies' Jordan Romano: Throws bullpen session
Romano (finger) threw a bullpen session Thursday, MLB.com reports.
After playing long toss Wednesday, Romano is continuing his throwing progression amid his recovery from right middle finger inflammation. The 32-year-old right-hander expects to pitch again this season, though Romano has a calamitous 8.23 ERA for the year and will likely work low-leverage situations if he returns in 2025.

Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Locks down save No. 26
Duran secured the save Thursday against Milwaukee, striking out one in a clean ninth inning.
Duran posted his 26th save of the season and his 10th since landing with the Phillies before the trade deadline. The 27-year-old right-hander now has a 1.54 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 14:0 K:BB over 11.2 innings for Philadelphia. Duran has submitted a scoreless outing in 12 of his last 14 appearances, and he's locked in as the club's closer.

Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Six shutout frames in 11th win
Suarez (11-6) picked up the win Thursday against the Brewers, allowing six hits and two walks in six scoreless innings. He struck out four.
Suarez has now given up one run or zero while throwing at least five innings in three straight starts. The left-hander has also logged a quality start in three of his last four outings, and he's worked at least five frames in eight consecutive appearances as well. Suarez boasts a 2.89 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 128:32 K:BB over his 137 innings, and he's next in line for a stiff assignment against a Mets team with an .845 OPS versus left-handed pitching since the beginning of August.

Phillies' Nick Castellanos: Out of Thursday's lineup
Castellanos is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Milwaukee.
Castellanos picked up two hits and scored two runs in Wednesday's loss to the Brewers, but he'll find himself on the bench Thursday for the fourth time over the last 10 contests. Brandon Marsh, Harrison Bader and Max Kepler will form the Phillies' outfield trio in Thursday's series finale.

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Hit hard in eighth loss
Nola (3-8) took the loss Wednesday against Milwaukee, allowing six runs on five hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out six.
Nola struggled mightily this year before going on the injured list with rib and ankle injuries in mid-May, turning in a 6.16 ERA through nine starts, and he's fared worse since returning from the three-month absence. The veteran right-hander has yielded at least four runs in three of his last four starts, and he's served up four home runs over that span. Nola's 6.78 ERA and 1.51 WHIP for the season would both easily be career worsts if they stand, and things won't figure to get much easier in his next scheduled outing against a Mets team with an .870 OPS since the beginning of August.

Phillies' Bryson Stott: Taking seat against southpaw
Stott is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
The left-handed-hitting Stott will retreat to the bench Wednesday while the Brewers send southpaw Jose Quintana to the hill. Edmundo Sosa will replace Stott at second base and will bat eighth.

Phillies' Max Kepler: Sitting for third time in four games
Kepler is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
The left-handed-hitting Kepler will hit the bench for the third time in four games, with two absences coming against southpaws. Though he should continue to play frequently versus righties, Kepler will occasionally find himself as the odd man out of the lineup with the Phillies having begun to open up more playing time for Harrison Bader as part of a four-man rotation in the outfield.

Phillies' Max Lazar: Back up in majors
The Phillies recalled Lazar from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday.
Lazar will join the Philadelphia bullpen as a replacement for Daniel Robert (forearm), who was placed on the injured list. The right-handed Lazar has made 28 relief appearances for the Phillies in 2025, posting a 4.78 while managing just 21 strikeouts over 32 frames.

Phillies' Daniel Robert: Out with forearm strain
The Phillies placed Robert on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to a right forearm strain.
He'll be eligible to return Sept. 17, but the nature of the injury points to Robert's season potentially being over. Robert holds a 4.15 ERA and 15:10 K:BB over 13 innings out of the bullpen for Philadelphia.

Phillies' Ramon Marquez: Better season than ERA suggests
Marquez logged a 4.24 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 22:5 K:BB in 17 innings across four starts for Single-A Clearwater.
Signed for $10,000 out of Mexico in January, Marquez excelled in his first pro season, particularly in the fielding-independent metrics. The 6-foot-2 righty has a 3.36 FIP, 3.06 xFIP and 23.1 K-BB% in 55 innings across the Florida Complex League and Florida State League. Marquez, who turns 20 on Sept. 19, touches 96 mph with his sinker, which has excellent late life and pairs nicely with his above-average slider. He also has an advanced changeup and generated groundballs at a 51.2 percent clip at Single-A.
