Reds' Nick Lodolo: Cleared to start Monday
Reds manager Terry Francona said Friday that Lodolo (illness) will start Monday's game in San Diego, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Lodolo had to be scratched from his last scheduled outing due to an illness but will be ready to rejoin the Reds' rotation for Monday's series opener versus the Padres. The left-hander is tentatively set up for a two-start week, with the second matchup coming on the road versus the Athletics.

Reds' Sal Stewart: Out of lineup again Friday
Stewart is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets.
Stewart started two straight games upon his promotion Monday but has now been out of the lineup for two straight tilts, though he did appear as a pinch hitter Wednesday. Spencer Steer is handling first base in Friday's series opener.

Reds' Joe La Sorsa: Outrighted to Triple-A
The Reds outrighted La Sorsa to Triple-A Louisville on Friday.
He's no longer on the 40-man roster, but La Sorsa will remain in the organization after passing through waivers. The lefty reliever has permitted nine runs (eight earned) in 6.2 innings during his brief time in the majors this season.

Reds' Will Banfield: Optioned to Triple-A
The Reds optioned Banfield to Triple-A Louisville on Friday.
Banfield served as the backup catcher behind Jose Trevino while Tyler Stephenson (thumb) was shelved. With Stephenson back in the fold, Banfield will return to Louisville.

Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Activated from 10-day IL
The Reds activated Stephenson (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Friday.
Stephenson fractured his left thumb three weeks ago but has made a quick recovery and rejoins the Reds' active roster as they push for a playoff spot. The 29-year-old backstop will serve as the club's primary catcher down the stretch, with Jose Trevino moving back to an active No. 2 catcher role.

Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Nearing return
Stephenson (thumb) is a combined 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and an additional run scored in two games of a rehab assignment for Triple-A Louisville.
Stephenson, who is on the injured list with a fractured thumb, began the assignment Wednesday, when he caught seven innings and homered in his first plate appearance. He followed up as the designated hitter for six innings Thursday. The report indicates an expected return date of Friday, when the Reds begin a weekend series at home against the Mets.

Reds' Zack Littell: Stumbles vs. Blue Jays
Littell allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk across 4.1 innings in a no-decision Wednesday against the Blue Jays. He struck out six.
Littell was hurt by the long ball Wednesday, with all five runs charged to the right-hander coming on four homers. Littell's given up seven home runs in his last three starts (14.1 innings) and now sports a 4.78 ERA in six starts (32 innings) with the Reds after posting a 3.58 mark in 22 outings (133.1 innings) with Tampa Bay. Littell is currently scheduled to face the Padres on the road his next time out.

Reds' Tejay Antone: Returns from 60-day IL
Antone (elbow) has given up six earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 2.1 innings in three appearances for Double-A Chattanooga since being transferred to the affiliate after he was activated from Triple-A Louisville's 60-day injured list Aug. 27.
Antone had resided on Louisville's IL all season while he completed his recovery from April 2024 surgery to repair the UCL and flexor tendon in his right elbow. The operation was the third Tommy John surgery of Antone's career, and given the sketchy track record of pitchers returning from two such procedures to become effective big leaguers, the odds are against the right-hander re-emerging as a reliable bullpen piece for Cincinnati. Though he pitched well over his five rehab outings in the Florida State League, Antone hasn't found much initial success since reporting to Chattanooga.

Reds' Spencer Steer: Back in action Wednesday
Steer (leg) will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
Steer will return to the lineup after a two-game absence due to a minor leg injury. Top prospect Sal Stewart had started at first base in both of the previous two contests while Steer managed the leg issue, but the rookie could end up shifting into more of a utility role moving forward, assuming Steer is able to maintain health.

Reds' Sal Stewart: Heading to bench Wednesday
Stewart is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
Following his promotion from Triple-A Louisville on Monday, Stewart started at first base in the first two games of the series with Toronto and went 2-for-8 with a run scored. Though he'll be on the bench Wednesday while Spencer Steer (leg) checks back in at first base following a two-game absence, Stewart could still have a path to at least semi-regular playing time in September while moving between second base and designated hitter.

Reds' Nick Martinez: Back in bullpen over weekend
Martinez retired the lone batter he faced in relief and collected his second hold of the season in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Cardinals.
Martinez had made four straight appearances as a starter from Aug. 9 through Aug. 26, but his last two outings have come out of the bullpen. Though the Reds scratched Nick Lodolo (illness) ahead of Tuesday's 12-9 loss to the Blue Jays, Martinez wasn't called upon for a spot start, as Cincinnati instead had Scott Barlow open the contest before he was followed by five other relievers. Cincinnati could consider moving Martinez back into the rotation if Lodolo ends up requiring a stint on the injured list, though the expectation at this time is that Lodolo will be ready to go the next time the Reds need a fifth starter.

Reds' Lyon Richardson: Summoned from minors
The Reds recalled Richardson from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.
Richardson will provide the Reds with a fresh arm after they went with a bullpen game in Tuesday's 12-9 loss to the Blue Jays. He's collected a 3.93 ERA and 30:20 K:BB over 36.2 frames during his time with the big club this season.

Reds' Reiver Sanmartin: Jettisoned to minors
The Reds optioned Sanmartin to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.
Sanmartin gave the Reds 1.2 innings out of the bullpen in his lone day with the team, giving up one unearned run in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays. Lyon Richardson was recalled from Triple-A to take Sanmartin's spot on the active roster and in the bullpen.

Reds' Austin Hays: Drives in four in Tuesday's loss
Hays went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI in Tuesday's 12-9 loss to the Blue Jays.
The veteran outfielder launched a three-run homer off Jose Berrios in the second inning as the Reds tried to climb out of an early 8-1 hole, but they were never quite able to get level. Hays is up to 13 long balls on the season, including three in his last seven games, and since Aug. 15 he's slashing an impressive .306/.328/.548 with 15 RBI in 17 contests.
