  • Athletics' Mason Barnett: Receiving another start

Barnett is slated to start Friday's game against the Angels in Anaheim.

After being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas, Barnett made his first MLB start this past Saturday, taking a loss to the Rangers while allowing five earned runs on eight hits and no walks over four innings. The 25-year-old righty will get a chance to redeem himself Friday, but another poor showing could put him at risk of losing his spot in the Athletics rotation.

  • Athletics' Wei-En Lin: Reaches Double-A at 19

Lin gave up two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two in 3.1 innings Thursday in his first start for Double-A Midland.

The Taiwanese lefty doesn't turn 20 until November, so just the fact he reached Double-A this season is quite the accomplishment. Lin is best known for his potentially plus command/control, as most public scouting services don't grade any of his pitches as plus. His fastball, changeup and curveball all get average or better grades however, so Lin is on track to be a No. 4 or No. 5 starter in the majors. All told, he has a 3.76 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 111:20 K:BB and 32.7 percent groundball rate in 83.2 innings across Single-A, High-A and Double-A in his first pro season.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Takes 10th loss in quality start

Springs (10-10) took the loss against St. Louis on Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four batters over six innings.

Springs pitched well Wednesday, giving up just a single run in each of the third and seventh innings, However, the Athletics' offense wasn't able to put its only run on the board until the eighth frame. Despite the defeat, Springs managed his first quality start since Aug. 6 and notched a healthy 10 whiffs. He's slated for a home matchup against Boston his next time out.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Receiving rest Wednesday

Soderstrom is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are sending left-hander Matthew Liberatore to the hill for the series finale, so Athletics manager Mark Kotsay likely decided that Wednesday was an optimal time to give the left-handed-hitting Soderstrom his first day off since Aug. 15. While starting in each of the Athletics' last 16 games, Soderstrom slashed .323/.400/.452 with one home run, one stolen base, nine RBI and seven runs.

  • Athletics' Luis Severino: Sharp in return Tuesday

Severino took a no-decision Tuesday against the Cardinals, allowing three hits and one walk in five scoreless innings. He struck out four.

Severino was likely working with a workload restriction in his first start since Aug. 5, although that didn't prevent him from delivering his first scoreless outing since May 17. The three hits allowed also matched a season best, and the veteran right-hander has now tossed at least five frames while yielding two runs or fewer in four of his last five appearances. Severino has a 4.65 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 107:45 K:BB over 141.1 innings, and he'll be looking to increase his pitch count next week against the Red Sox.

  • Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Back in action Tuesday

Kurtz (oblique) is starting at first base and batting leadoff Tuesday against the Cardinals.

The rookie first baseman is back in the lineup Tuesday after missing the previous three games due to oblique discomfort. Kurtz will attempt to get back on track after going 4-for-20 with five walks, a homer, five runs and nine strikeouts in the nine games preceding the injury.

  • Athletics' Junior Perez: On fire at Triple-A

Perez is slashing .306/.443/.729 with 10 home runs and eight steals in 24 games since getting promoted from Double-A Midland to Triple-A Las Vegas on Aug. 1.

Perez, who has primarily played center field this season, was a notable international signee by the Padres in 2018 and was dealt as a player to be named later in the June 2020 trade that sent Jorge Mateo from Oakland to San Diego. Perez turned 24 in July and has struggled with strikeouts in the past, but his 75 percent contact rate and 9.3 percent swinging-strike rate at Triple-A are solid enough marks, and pitchers are clearly worried about him (19.8 BB%). He will need to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason if the Athletics want to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Drives in three runs

Soderstrom went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI in Monday's win over the Cardinals.

Soderstrom was a big factor in pushing the Athletics' lead into blowout territory Monday. The 23-year-old has spent most of his defensive time in left field this season but started at first base with Nick Kurtz (oblique) still sidelined. Regardless of where he's positioned, Soderstrom's bat has been a constant, as he's hitting .271/.344/.470 with an .814 OPS, 28 doubles, 23 homers and 81 RBI across 138 games this season.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Trio of hits in win

Gelof went 3-for-5 with a double, a solo home run, an additional run scored and was caught stealing in Monday's win over the Cardinals.

Gelof contributed to the Athletics' blowout win Monday with his second homer and second double of the season. His 2025 campaign has been derailed by wrist and rib injuries, keeping him in the minors more than the majors to this point. Since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Aug. 25, the 25-year-old is 7-for-27 (.259), with all four of his extra-base hits and five of his six RBI on the year coming during the seven-game stretch.

  • Athletics' JJ Bleday: Blasts two bombs

Bleday went 2-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI and an additional run scored in Monday's 11-3 win over St. Louis.

Bleday delivered his first multi-homer game of the season Monday in a blowout win. The outfielder has bounced between Triple-A Las Vegas and Sacramento this year with uneven results, but the power has creeped up lately as he's slashed .230/.302/.460 with five homers and 11 RBI over his last 30 games.

  • Athletics' Luis Morales: Picks up third win

Morales (3-0) earned the win Monday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against the Cardinals. He struck out eight.

Morales kept his strong run going Monday, striking out a career-high eight batters while picking up his third win. The 22-year-old has impressed with the Athletics, logging a 1.59 ERA and 0.99 WHIP across 28.1 innings in six appearances (five starts). With such a strong debut season in 2025, he's making a compelling case to earn a full-time rotation spot heading into 2026.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Losing out on playing time

Harris is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.

Harris had been seeing fairly steady playing time at third base following his call-up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Aug. 15, but he appears to have faded into a reserve role in the wake of fellow infielder Zack Gelof getting a promotion last Monday. With Gelof starting at second base in all seven of the Athletics' games since his call-up, Darell Hernaiz has shifted over to third base on a more frequent basis.

... See More ... See Less
  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Idle again Monday

Langeliers is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.

The Athletics are playing their second afternoon game in a row, and Langeliers has now checked out of the lineup for both contests. The team hasn't indicated that Langeliers is nursing an injury, so the consecutive absences could stem from a desire to manage his workload. While serving as a catcher or designated hitter, Langeliers has started in 101 of the Athletics' first 139 games of the season.

  • Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Absence continues Monday

Kurtz (oblique) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.

An MRI on his oblique came back clean Saturday, but Kurtz will miss a third straight game while he deals with lingering discomfort. Tyler Soderstrom will cover first base Monday in Kurtz's absence.
