Astros' Lucas Spence: Climbs three levels this year
Spence has a .246/.369/.403 slash line with nine home runs, 24 steals, a 14.1 percent walk rate and a 24 percent strikeout rate in 110 games across Single-A, High-A and Double-A this season.
Spence was a two-way player in community college and in the Ohio Valley Conference before signing with the Astros in 2024 as an undrafted free agent. He has focused on developing as an outfielder in pro ball, demonstrating a strong eye at the plate and plus speed on the bases. The lefty hitter would presumably face a platoon role initially in the majors, but his strong swing decisions and defensive utility could get him a look in 2026 or 2027.

Sanchez has gone 14-for-31 (.452) over his last 10 games, adding three homers, three doubles and six RBI in that span, as he continues to fill a strong-side platoon role in the corner outfield. Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Erupts for homer, four hits
Alvarez went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, a double, a second RBI and two total runs scored in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Yankees.

The slugger struggled to find his timing right after being activated from the injured list after a lengthy absence due to a hand injury, but he's bounced back quickly with four multi-hit efforts over his last five games. Astros' Cristian Javier: Back to struggles versus Yankees
Javier (1-2) allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.1 innings to take the loss versus the Yankees on Thursday.
Javier threw six no-hit innings versus the Angels in his last start, but he wasn't able to replicate the effort against a tougher opponent. He gave up one run in the second inning and then ran into significant trouble before he was pulled in the fifth. Javier is now at a 4.43 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 20:12 K:BB through 20.1 innings over five starts since returning from Tommy John surgery, which may explain his shaky control, though he's never been particularly dominant at limiting walks anyway. Javier is lined up for a challenging road start versus the Blue Jays next week.
