  • White Sox's Mike Tauchman: Tending to soreness

Tauchman is out of the lineup Friday due to general body soreness, Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Tauchman was held out of the lineup with lower body soreness Aug. 23, so it's not a new ailment for the 34-year-old. Tauchman has been out of the lineup for three consecutive games, though it's unclear if all of the absences are due to the soreness. Regardless, Tauchman should be considered day-to-day.

  • White Sox's Brooks Baldwin: Departing lineup Friday

Baldwin is absent from the lineup for Friday's contest in Detroit.

Baldwin has been seeing regular reps in the outfield for the White Sox lately, but he'll take a seat in Friday's series opener. Will Robertson will grab the start in right field.

  • White Sox's Lenyn Sosa: Getting breather Friday

Sosa is not in the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Tigers.

It looks to be a routine day off for Sosa, who had started each of the previous 11 tilts. Curtis Mead will cover first base in Sosa's stead.

  • White Sox's Mike Tauchman: Losing playing time

Tauchman is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Detroit.

It marks the third straight game that the left-handed-hitting Tauchman has been absent from the lineup, and all three contests have been against right-handed pitching. The 32-year-old has just a .616 OPS since Aug. 1, and the White Sox appear ready to turn to younger options in the outfield. Will Robertson is in right field Friday.

  • White Sox's Tim Elko: Returns to minors

The White Sox optioned Elko to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

Elko's latest stint in the majors lasted a week, but he received just one start and five plate appearances during that time, going hitless. He's posted a .523 OPS with a 41.7 percent strikeout rate across 23 games with Chicago this season.

  • White Sox's Dominic Fletcher: Contract selected by Chicago

The White Sox selected the contract of Fletcher from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

Fletcher has slashed .260/.317/.453 with 17 home runs, 68 RBI, 56 runs scored, seven stolen bases and a 29:87 BB:K across 446 trips to the plate at Triple-A. He appeared in 72 regular-season games for the White Sox last season, slashing .206/.252/.256 over 241 plate appearances. Fletcher figures to serve as a reserve outfielder for Chicago, though he could push for playing time in center field.

  • White Sox's Jonathan Cannon: Demoted to Triple-A

The White Sox optioned Cannon to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

Cannon was just recalled Thursday but will head back to the minors a day later after being touched up for five runs over 2.1 innings in a bulk relief appearance. The righty has managed just a 5.67 ERA across 17 starts and three relief outings for the White Sox this season.

  • White Sox's Jeral Perez: Goes 20/10 for Dash

Perez is slashing .242/.315/.445 with 21 home runs, 10 steals, an 8.4 percent walk rate and a 20.4 percent strikeout rate in 122 games for High-A Winston-Salem.

Perez's .267 BABIP is pushing down his batting average, but he's still been 23 percent better than the average Sally League hitter. Perez is the only hitter under 21 to have 20-plus homers and 10-plus steals in the minors this year. He has started 76 games at second base and 25 games at shortstop.

  • White Sox's Dan Altavilla: Reinstated from injured list

The White Sox activated Altavilla (lat) from the 15-day injured list Friday.

Altavilla was sidelined for just over a month with a right lat strain but is ready to go after making four rehab appearances with Triple-A Charlotte. The veteran righty had been seeing some high-leverage usage before getting hurt but could be eased back into such situations.

  • White Sox's Curtis Mead: Playing well with regular at-bats

Mead went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI on Thursday against the Twins.

Mead has started eight straight games and 10 of the last 11 contests while playing exclusively at third base. In that 11-game span, he's gone 13-for-44 (.295) with three RBI, seven runs scored and five doubles. Mead also has a seven-game hitting streak and should continue to see regular at-bats at least until Miguel Vargas (wrist) rejoins the lineup.

  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Three-hit effort in win

Quero went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Thursday's 11-8 win over the Twins.

Quero batted leadoff for the first time in his career -- over 93 games this season, he's batted out of every spot in the order. He's most frequently featured third, fourth or sixth in the lineup, but he's been hitting well lately, going 23-for-65 (.354) over his last 20 games. The switch hitter is up to a .289/.351/.395 slash line with five home runs, 36 RBI, 28 runs scored, 17 doubles and no stolen bases across 333 plate appearances. Quero hasn't provided much power and has lackluster speed -- ranking in the fifth percentile -- so he doesn't seem like a logical fit for the leadoff spot in the long run despite a promising showing at getting on base.

  • White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Racks up four hits in win

Meidroth went 4-for-5 with a double in Thursday's 11-8 win over the Twins.

Meidroth missed time earlier in the week due to an ankle issue. He was hurt Monday and sat out Tuesday before returning Wednesday. The infielder has gone 18-for-62 (.290) over 17 games since returning from a thumb injury in mid-August. His big performance Thursday has him up to a .258/.334/.331 slash line with four home runs, 13 stolen bases, 21 RBI and 44 runs scored over 101 contests this season.

  • White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Launches homer in win

Montgomery went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run, an additional RBI, a walk and three total runs scored in Thursday's 11-8 win over the Twins.

Montgomery is on a power binge again with seven homers over his last 11 games, a span in which he's added 14 RBI. His blast in the ninth inning Thursday gave the White Sox some extra breathing room to take the drama out of the end of the contest. The 23-year-old rookie is up to 17 long balls on the year, and he's added a .227/.288/.547 slash line, 42 RBI, 32 runs scored, five doubles, one triple and no stolen bases over his first 50 games in the majors.

  • White Sox's Kyle Teel: Massive game in high-scoring win

Teel went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run, an additional RBI, a stolen base and three total runs scored in Thursday's 11-8 win over the Twins.

Teel has seven multi-hit efforts over his last 15 games, going 22-for-55 (.400) with four homers and 14 RBI in that span. Through the first five games of September, the 23-year-old catcher has gone 5-for-14 with four walks, two doubles, two homers, five RBI and five runs. On the year, he's up to a .293/.390/.440 slash line with six homers, 27 RBI, 30 runs scored and three stolen bases over his first 60 major-league contests.

  • White Sox's Jonathan Cannon: Rocked in bulk-relief outing

Cannon allowed five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two over 2.1 innings versus the Twins on Thursday. He did not factor in the decision.

Cannon pitched out of the bullpen, following 1.1 scoreless innings from opener Fraser Ellard. Cannon's struggles mostly came in the fourth inning, but the White Sox were ultimately able to persevere and went on to win 11-8. The right-hander's 2025 had some promising moments in the first half, but he's now allowed 25 runs (24 earned) over 21.1 innings across his last five appearances. Overall, Cannon has a 4.22 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 78:37 K:BB through 98.1 innings across 20 appearances (17 starts).

  • White Sox's Noah Schultz: Back on injured list

Schultz was placed on the minor-league injured list with knee discomfort Thursday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Merkin reports that the White Sox are taking a cautious approach with Schultz, who had only recently returned from a knee injury. Schultz may not retake the mound for the rest of the minor-league season, but he is expected to participate in the Arizona Fall League.

  • White Sox's Bryse Wilson: Jettisoned from 40-man

The White Sox designated Wilson for assignment Thursday.

Wilson's time with the White Sox will come to an end after just five days, during which he threw two shutout innings in his lone appearance Tuesday against Minnesota. The 27-year-old cleared waivers and remained with the organization when he was DFA'd in June, and there's a strong chance he does the same this time around.

  • White Sox's Bryan Hudson: Out with lower-back strain

The White Sox placed Hudson on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a lower-back strain.

Hudson had been recalled earlier this week and made just one appearance before landing on the IL. He'll be eligible to return later this month, but any injury at this point has the potential to be a season-ender.
