Viktor Hovland pulls out of upcoming Phoenix Open
Viktor Hovland has pulled out of the upcoming WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona, as announced by the PGA Tour on Saturday.
No reason was given for the Norwegian's withdrawal by the PGA Tour.
Hovland was among a group of 10 players tied for 29th place at 7 under heading into the third round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Saturday.
Prior to the tournament, Hovland admitted that his previously broken toe was not a concern, but his overall game was not up to par.
"It's not in great shape," said Hovland, who won the U.S. Amateur title at Pebble Beach in 2018. "Yeah, it's been frustrating. I do feel like I'm making progress and constantly trying to piece everything together. Even though I'm not seeing immediate results, which is incredibly frustrating, I do feel like I'm gaining more knowledge."
After winning the FedEx Cup and claiming victories at the Memorial and BMW Championship in 2023, the world No. 9 only managed two top-10 finishes in 16 starts last season. He finished third at the PGA Championship and tied for second at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Paul Waring of Great Britain will take Hovland's spot in the Phoenix Open field.
